Columbus Co. Shelter gets huge animal food donation

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Animal Shelter received a huge donation of more than two and a half tons of animal food after seeing overcrowding during Hurricane Matthew.

Animal Control Manager Joey Prince says the donation was made possible by Rescue Bank via All 4 Paws. He says the donation included 942 lbs. of dry dog food, 2,124 lbs. of dry cat food, 880 lbs. of wet puppy food and 1,152 lbs. of dry kitten food.

Prince says Rescue Bank is part of the Greater Good organization and works by obtaining nutritious pet food donated by manufacturers and distributors when it is nearing the ‘best buy’ date, has minor packaging defects or is being re-branded.

The food was donated to All 4 Paws, a dog and cat rescue in South Carolina and the Columbus Humane Society delivered the donation.

If you’re looking to adopt, the Columbus County Animal Shelter, at 288 Legion Drive in Whiteville, is open Monday through Friday.
