Columbus Co. Sheriff’s Office investigating shots fired calls

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 9-year-old boy has been injured in one of three separate shooting incidents that happened in Columbus County over the last few days.

The incident that left the boy injured happened on Friday night in Whiteville. According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home in the 1800 block of Mille Christine Road around 10:30pm. When deputies arrived, a woman who lived in the home told them someone fired several shots into the home. The woman, her boyfriend and three children, ages 4, 9, and 10 were in the home at the time. The 9-year-old was struck by gunfire and was taken to the hospital. No one else in the home was hurt. The investigation continues.

The second separate incident also happened on Friday, in Lake Waccamaw. According to the report, deputies responded to a shooting into an occupied dwelling call the 4600 block of Pocosin Road around 10pm. The 55-year-old male victim told deputies he was driving home when another vehicle passed him and fired shots into his car. The man was not injured.

The third incident happened around 2pm on Sunday in the Evergreen community. According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a shots fired into a home on Williamson Trail. The 43-year-old man at the home was not hurt and the investigation continues.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on any of the three shooting incidents to contact them.
