Columbus County inmate stabbed with broken broom
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an inmate was beaten and stabbed over the weekend.
It happened Saturday night just before 11:30 p.m. at Columbus Correctional Institution.
The sheriff’s office says inmate Robert White, 39, was beaten with a broom until it broke. Investigators say White was then stabbed multiple times with the broken broom stick.
The suspect in the beating and stabbing is also an inmate, but no charges have been made in the case yet.
No word on White’s current condition.
White was convicted in April of 2008 in Buncombe County of assault on a policeman, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and manslaughter.
