Columbus County man accused of using alias to commit construction fraud
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man wanted in several states for construction fraud is behind bars.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says they arrested Eugene Daniel Golden during a traffic stop. A state trooper stopped Golden for speeding. During the stop, Golden is accused of giving the trooper false information. He was arrested for resisting a public officer. He was then taken to Columbus County to be booked into jail.
The sheriff’s office says that’s when they discovered Golden’s true identity.
He had an outstanding warrant in Georgia for failure to perform construction and warrants in Virginia, Delaware, West Virginia, and Maryland for construction fraud.
The sheriff’s office says a Columbus County resident heard of Golden’s arrest and told them he had paid Golden to install a metal roof on his property but Golden hadn’t done the work.
The sheriff’s office launched an investigation and says they discovered Golden had defrauded several people in Columbus County.
Golden is accused of using the alias Dan Shaffer.
The sheriff’s office believes there may be other victims.
They ask that you contact them if you paid Golden, otherwise known as Dan Shaffer, for repairs following Hurricane Matthew.
