A look at the Convention Center’s art

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We’ve been watching the outside walls of Wilmington’s new Convention Center go up piece by piece. Now we have some idea of what pieces will hang on the walls inside.

The Convention Center Arts Committee has chosen a maritime theme for the interior design. Old drawings, photographs and postcards will be blown up and mounted to the walls. Some of the walls are so massive they’ll have 10-foot by eight-foot images. There’s only one finished right now. It’s a picture of Wilmington’s harbor in the 1850s.

“I’m very excited to see it coming together,” Arts Committee member Beverly Tetterton said. “We’ve been meeting for over a year now, and we had a lot of great ideas. To actually see the images on the canvas, they’re very very big, and it looks great.”

There will also be digital art displayed inside. It can be changed according to what type of industry books the Convention Center.

We’ll have more on the Convention Center art coming up on WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 6 p.m.
