Commissioner says they need a pay cut

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One New Hanover County Commissioner is proposing the entire board take a pay cut.

Commissioner Woody White made the assertion during a budget work session Thursday.

White said our County Commissioners should take an 8% pay cut from what they make right now. White called it a symbolic move, but the right one.

“At a time when we are tightening our budgets,” White said. “We need to demonstrated to our own employees and more importantly to the citizens that we’re serious about making these cuts”

The move would only save the county about $8,800 a year.

In comparison, Brunswick County Commissioners currently make more money for their public service than New Hanover County Commissioners.
