Commissioner comments after husband arrested in SC prostitution bust

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WWAY) — A county commissioner’s husband was one of more than a dozen people arrested yesterday across the state line in South Carolina on a prostitution charge.

Daniel Earl Dawson, 60, was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County, SC, at 6:40 p.m. Thursday by Horry County Police, according to the jail’s website. He was released just after 3 p.m. today, according to the site under $375 bond for a charge of prostitution – 1st offense.

Horry County Police say he was one of 14 people arrested yesterday during a prostitution sting. No other details on that sting have been released.

Dawson, who is the vice president of a civil engineering firm in Wilmington, according to his LinkedIn profile, and the husband of New Hanover County Commission Vice Chair Beth Dawson, was one of 15 people booked into the jail arrested for prostitution yesterday, according to media reports in Myrtle Beach.

Reached by phone this afternoon, Beth Dawson said she had spoken to her husband briefly last night and told him how much she loves him.

“I don’t have many details or facts at this point,” she said. “I’m just waiting to hear from Dan.”

Beth Dawson said this is a personal and private matter that she and her husband will deal with.

“We just love each other so much,” she said.

She also said the arrest has no impact on her work as a county commissioner.
