Commissioners renew support for film program
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Commission had their first meeting of 2015 this afternoon. Monday they passed a resolution in support of the film industry.
Chairman Jonathan Barfield says he hopes the resolution will send a message to the general assembly that film has support in our state and that the incentive program needs to be revisited.
“We will be asking them to advocate for and support a type of economic development package an incentive or an expansion to the current grant program,” said Barfield.
The new film grant program took the place of the film incentive program beginning the first of the year. The grant program caps benefits at $10-million which is a far cry from the almost $60-million handed out in incentives last year.
