Committee wants embattled health director to keep position

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — It could be deja-vu all over again for the Pender County Health Department. A special committee met Wednesday night to discuss a replacement for outgoing Health Director Jack Griffith.

The committee was supposed to name an interim replacement and begin the search for permanent one. But the majority decided to ask the Board of Health to let Griffith continue to lead the department until a permanent director is named.

“It’s not worth it to bring one for two months,” said Dr. Naseem Nasrallah a member of the committee. “So continuation of the management now and passing it to the new one is better.”

The Board of Health will have to hold an emergency meeting to consider the request. We were unable to contact Griffith to find out if he would accept the position if asked.
