Community again steps up to adopt Marines for Thanksgiving
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Yet more proof has arrived to show that our community is one of the most generous you will ever find.
Wednesday on Good Evening Wilmington we told you about a Wilmington businessman’s annual effort to give some Marines a taste of home at Thanksgiving. And less than two days later, he’s done just that.
Port City Java CEO Steve Schnitzler says he has received more than 200 inquiries for his Marines for Thanksgiving program, in which area families welcome Marines into their home for a holiday meal. Schnitzler says many of those inquiries came since we aired our story Wednesday, while some came even before from folks disappointed they missed out on a chance to help last year. Indeed, he says more families than needed stepped up to share their Thanksgiving feast.
This is the fourth year Schnitzler has organized Marines for Thanksgiving, and WWAY is proud to do a small part in helping promote it. on Thanksgiving morning, more than 150 Marines who can’t be with their own families on the holiday will bus in from Camp Lejeune to join these amazing and generous families for dinner.
From all of us to all of you who met the call, we extend a hearty thanks and happy Thanksgiving!
