Community celebrates Ricky Meeks with surprise 50th birthday party

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A special celebration for a Wilmington native. The community got together to surprise Ricky Meeks for his 50th birthday.

Meeks was born and raised in Wilmington. He was also a New Hanover High School graduate.

He became a familiar face to many throughout the community. Meeks is a loyal high school sports fan.

People say he spreads kindness everywhere he goes.

“I don’t expect a lot of stuff from people. It’s an appreciation of friends and loved ones and birthdays. I’m very, very grateful and honored to be 50 years old,” Meeks said.

Meeks says he is so happy to see so many people come out to celebrate him after so many years.
