Community gathers for National Day of Prayer
HAMPSTEAD. NC (WWAY) — Across the country, people are taking part in National Day of Prayer, and folks in Hampstead found a way to join.
Community members spent the service praying for everything from local business to political leaders. Singers also entertained the crowd with hymns and the Star-Spangled Banner.
This is the eighth year the event has taken place in Hampstead and coordinator Reverend Bennie Daniels said it brings the community together.
“‘It’s just a wonderful thing, people come bring blankets, sit on the ground, bring their own chair, we put out some chairs,” Daniels said. “We just love doing it for the community.”
The national day is celebrated every year and was signed into law by Congress in 1952.
