Community holds walk to stop hunger
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC — Shallotte and Brunswick County held their annual CROP Hunger Walk Sunday.
The event is sponsored by the South Brunswick Interchurch Council made up of 21 area churches. This year’s goal is to have 180 walkers raise 14,000 dollars.
The majority of the funds raised will help stop poverty and hunger both in the Brunswick community and around the world.
Pastor Jack Patrick from Sunset Beach experienced poverty as a child and said that’s why he walks every year.
“To be able to have food to eat is a real necessity that people just don’t have access to a lot of times, so we try to do a lot of different things to try to eliminate that,” said Patrick.
Since 1991, CROP Hunger Walk has given more than $44, 000 to the Brunswick community.
