Community holds fundraiser for fire victims
WILMINGTON — A fundraiser for victims of a mobile home fire in Leland kicked off in Wilmington this afternoon.
Organizers put on a silent auction and raffle to help raise ten thousand dollars to build the Bells a new home. Local businesses and organizations including WWAY sponsored the event and donated prizes. Event organizers were eager to help out.
“People have house fires and lose their homes on occasion,” said Julie Stuart who helped organize the event. “Things happen. But these people are good people. They’re good people who deserve help, you know they put others first and they’re very humble.”
The bell family lost two sons in the December fire, along with all of their possessions. Since then, members of the community have donated everything from clothing to money to help the family get back on their feet.
