Company backs out of building convention center

WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington will soon cut a check for almost $500,000 to settle up with the company that was going to build the convention center here.

This spring Armada-Hoffler backed out of the convention center deal, saying it was no longer financially feasible for them to develop a full-service hotel the City wanted.

The lion’s share of the charges are for architectural design services.

The City is also footing the bill for development fees and consulting services.
