WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Academy Award-winning composer John Williams is giving the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra a notable endorsement ahead of its performance of one of his most beloved film scores.

The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College announced Tuesday that “Home Alone in Concert” will come to Wilmington on Saturday, Dec. 19, featuring the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra performing Williams’ iconic score live as the 1990 holiday classic plays on the big screen.

In a statement released with the announcement, Williams said he is “especially delighted” that the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra will perform the music during the live-to-picture event.

“Ever since Home Alone appeared, it has held a unique place in the affections of a very broad public,” Williams said. “Director Chris Columbus brought a uniquely fresh and innocent approach to this delightful story, and the film has deservedly become a perennial at holiday time. I took great pleasure in composing the score for the film, and I am especially delighted that the magnificent Wilmington Symphony Orchestra has agreed to perform the music in a live presentation of the movie.”

Directed by Chris Columbus and written and produced by John Hughes, Home Alone stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an 8-year-old boy accidentally left behind when his family departs for Christmas vacation. The holiday favorite has become a seasonal tradition since its release in 1990.

The Dec. 19 performances, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., are part of the Wilson Center’s Family Series. The venue is offering $25 tickets for children and students, valid for any seat in the theater.

Tickets go on sale to Wilson Center members and Wilmington Symphony Orchestra subscribers at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15. General public sales begin at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, online and at the Wilson Center box office. Officials encourage patrons to purchase tickets only through the Wilson Center’s official ticketing platform to avoid scams.
