Convicted murderer motions for retrial
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Convicted murderer Shan Carter was in court again today after asking for a retrial for the 1996 murder of Donald Brunson. This time around Carter wants to represent himself.
Carter believes that his attorneys are not taking some of his claims seriously. He believes that they are holding them from the court in an attempt to protect themselves and other members of the judicial system. A court appointed psychiatrist stated that he believes Carter is delusional, and believes that the NC Bar is plotting against him.
Today a judge decided to keep Carter’s attorneys on the case. The judge said he saw no reason to believe the attorneys were acting inappropriately in any way. As for the retrial, the judge is currently reviewing the case.
Carter is already on death row at Central Prison in Raleigh. He was sentenced to death twice in connection with two other murders. One of those victims was an 8-year-old boy.
