Convicted New Hanover Co. killer up for parole

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man convicted of second degree murder in New Hanover County is up for parole.

Lester Islam, 49, was convicted in 1996 and sentenced to life in prison.

Due to a change in state sentencing law, parole has been eliminated for crimes committed after October 1994.

Islam was sentenced under the previous guidelines.
