Convicted murderer to be released from New Hanover Correctional Facility

A convicted murderer in the New Hanover County Correctional Facility is scheduled to be released Friday.

A state appeals court ruled Thursday that Alford Jones should be released from prison, along with Faye Brown, who is being held in a separate facility.

The court rejected a request from the state attorney to keep the inmates behind bars.

Jones and Brown were sentenced to life terms in the 1970’s, but their lawyers argued under the definition of a life term that they have served their sentence.

The inmates will be let go Friday unless the state Supreme Court blocks the release.
