Convicted murderers to receive new sentences

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two convicted murders from New Hanover County are getting off of death row. Kyle Berry and Jamey Cheek are scheduled to be resentenced tomorrow.

Berry was sentenced to die for the 1998 murder of Theresa Fetter. Cheek was sent to death row for kidnapping a taxi cab driver in 1996, and burning her to death in the trunk of her car. Both sentences were vacated during the appeals process. The men are expected to be given life sentences instead.
