Cops nab car thieves

Time: 12:57 a.m. – Friday morning
Location: 1789 Country Club Rd
Offense: Possession of Stolen Auto/ Eluding Arrest.

Summary: A WPD officer on patrol near Wrightsville Avenue and Independence noticed a 2007 Dodge Durango driving erratically and committing a lane violation. The officer ran the tag and began to attempt a traffic stop, but the vehicle took off.

The officer elected not to enter a pursuit for a relatively minor traffic infraction and he turned off his emergency equipment. But he continued to follow the vehicle and saw it turn south onto Country Club Road.

When the Durango got to where the road dead ends, two men jumped out and ran onto the golf course. Dispatch then notified the officer that the vehicle was stolen.

K-9 and SABLE were called and a perimeter was set up. The suspects, Quintel Raheem Grady, d.o.b. 10-8-1990, and Robert Kahli Williams, 10-8-1991, both of Wilmington, were apprehended a short time later on Oleander Drive and Country Club Road.

They were charged with the offenses listed above. They are in custody at the New Hanover County detention facility, each under $10,000 secure bond.
