Cornhole tournament helps raise money for Brigade Boys & Girls Club

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington recreational sports league held a cornhole  tournament to help benefit the Brigade Boys & Girls Club Saturday.

Sports City hosted their first ever cornhole classic as a fun way to get the community together while also supporting an organization.

Around 40 teams signed up to play along with dozens of people having fun watching the tournament. Sports City Co-Owner Clark Shay said he was excited with the turn out.

“There’s just a need for something fun to do and it’s something that we all like to do outside of it, so we figured we would put it together, and get people together to play. And it’s great to be in the Brooklyn Arts Center because it’s nice and warm inside even though it’s cold outside,” Shay said.

Shay said their goal was to raise around $500 for the Brigade Boys & Girls Club and they hope to do this event again next year.
