Corning layoffs will hit their optical fiber workforce
This is a tense week for employees at Corning, Inc. in Wilmington. A Corning spokesperson confirmed that the company will announce layoffs this week.
Last month, the company said it would reduce it’s overall workforce by 3,500 employees.
The spokesperson would not say how many people will be laid off in Wilmington. She did say that the company’s global optical fiber workforce will be cut by fifteen percent. The Wilmington plant is an optical fiber facility.
