Could Blackwater be on its way out of Iraq?

RALEIGH (AP) — The head of North Carolina-based Blackwater USA says he wants his guards to be able to “clear their names, do their jobs and move forward.”

Erik Prince tells “60 Minutes” he’s glad the FBI is looking into the company after the killings of 17 Iraqi civilians in a Baghdad square last month.

Prince says the guards didn’t murder anyone.

Iraqi officials say Blackwater guards opened fire without provocation. Prince says he has evidence guards were fired on first.

U.S. and Iraqi officials are negotiating Baghdad’s demand that Moyock-based Blackwater be expelled from the country within six months. American diplomats appear to be working on how to fill the security gap if Blackwater is phased out.
