Council approves money for UNCW track, Haynes expenses

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW is getting money from the City of Wilmington to renovate the track.

During last night’s city council meeting, council approved an agreement to provide $100,000 per year for the next three years for the university’s track. In exchange, the public will get to use the track during certain times.

UNCW is also asking for $500,000 from the county for renovations.

The track was built in 1988 and no major work has been done to it since.

Also during last night’s meeting, council approved a request for reimbursement of up to $3,500 for Mayor Pro-tem Margaret Haynes’s sister city trip to San Pedro, Belize last week. The plan is to use unspent funds remaining in council’s travel budget for this year.
