Council considers $92k for Convention Center, Muni
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council next week will consider spending more than $92,000 on the Convention Center and the newly-renovated Municipal Golf Course.
The agenda for Tuesday’s council meeting includes whether to spend $50,000 in room occupancy tax on emergency HVAC repairs after a duct on the roof of the Convention Center, which opened in the fall of 2010, buckled and opened a hole. Crews have patched the hole to limit heating and air conditioning from getting out. The money under consideration would be for long-term repairs.
Council will also consider spending money left from last year’s renovation of the Municipal Golf Course.
There’s almost $18,000 left from the Greens Renovation Project and nearly $25,000 left in the Golf Course Capital Projects Fund. Staff proposes using it for repainting the interior of the clubhouse, and replacing windows and a couple of cart path bridges. Spending that money would allow the work to start immediately. In the meantime, the Golf Course Advisory Board is working to raise money for the projects. Any donations the board collects will be given to the city for its Golf Course Fund.
