County deems concert venue The Blue Eyed Muse unsafe
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Blue Eyed Muse in downtown Wilmington announced earlier this week that the concert venue would close indefinitely due to structural issues.
New Hanover County inspected the building Friday and deems the structure as seriously damaged and is unsafe. The county posted a sign on the front door saying “Do not enter. Entry may result in death or injury.”
The building has numerous structural issues, like an open lift station causing methane gas to filter into the building, not enough bathrooms, and electrical problems.
The county will work with the business to fix these concerns, but until that happens, they will be closed indefinitely.
A full report from the county inspectors is expected to be released next week.
The Blue Eyed Muse is one of downtown Wilmington’s largest music venues and went through a renovation last summer. Before it became the Throne Theater, it opened in 2013 as Ziggy’s by the Sea.
