County has plan for $10 million budget shortfall
WILMINGTON — New Hanover County has come up with a way to make up for its part of the $10 million budget shortfall.
The county is trying to compensate for almost $7 million from the budget mistake. About $3 million will come from the county fund balance.
A little more than $4 million will come from budget cuts such as reducing government employee overtime, travel and holding off on buying new equipment.
The county will also hold off on hiring a handful of firefighters for the Murrayville Fire Department, which is expected to be built in early April.
