Couple on first date rescued from capsized sailboat

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Ocean rescue officials said a couple on a first date ended up having to be pulled from the waters when their sailboat capsized.

The incident happened near the inlet at around 11:45 a.m. Officials said someone from the Shell Island Resort spotted the flipped vessel. The pair, described in their late teens to early 20s, was pulled from the ocean with no injuries.

The flipped 18-foot sailboat washed ashore at Figure 8 Island a short time after the incident.

No word if the pair is planning a second date.
