Crash shuts down Carolina Beach Rd., one in custody

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A late-night car accident shut down Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.

The accident happened at Carolina Beach Rd. and Northern Blvd. The call about the accident came in at 1:09 a.m., according to New Hanover County Dispatch, involving two cars.

Sgt. R.J Simmons with the Wilmington Police Department says one person was killed. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

Clarissa Woodward, 22, is in custody charged with driving while impaired, felony death by a motor vehicle and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. She is being held at the New Hanover County Jail under a $75,000 bond.
