Crash victim sues city, police officer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is asking for an extension after man filed a suit against a Wilmington Police officer and the city.

According to a lawsuit filed in New Hanover County, 81-year-old Kenneth Smith was driving his 2002 Oldsmobile on Robin Hood Drive when Wilmington Police officer William Richards ran a red light on 16th Street and hit him. The accident happened December 17, 2008 and left Smith with serious and permanent injuries.

The motion for an extension is still pending.
