Victim identified in Brunswick Co. 18-wheeler crash
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Troopers say a man was killed in an early-morning crash in Brunswick County involving an 18-wheeler and another car.
Trooper John King said around 6 a.m. two men were traveling south on Highway 17 when their silver Toyota struck an 18-wheeler. King said the driver of that vehicle, David Christopher Satrazemis, 62, of Wilmington was killed in the crash. The male occupant was taken to the hospital but is believed to not have life-threatening injuries.
King said the driver of the 18-wheeler, Terry Baxley crossed over the southbound lanes to make a turn, but the back end of the trailer was in the southbound lanes. That’s when troopers said Satrazemis crashed into the trailer at the intersection of Galloway Road, tearing off the top part of the vehicle.
Trooper King said Baxley is facing a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charge. He was booked in jail under a $15,000 unsecured bond. King said he does not suspect impairment in the incident.
