Crews making progress restoring power across North Carolina
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Slowly but surely, power is coming back to communities across North Carolina despite overwhelming obstacles in many parts of the state due to flooding from Hurricane Matthew.
This morning Brunswick EMC was reporting all but 101 of its more than 91,000 customers in Brunswick, Columbus, Bladen and Robeson counties were back online.
Four County EMC says it has power back to about 89 percent of its customers. The utility says of the more than 3,200 members without power as of this morning, about 1,000 are in flooded areas of Bladen, Columbus, Duplin, Pender and Sampson counties. Even if the area directly around the member is not flooded, the Four County says terrain where the repairs are needed may be flooded. Crews will continue to monitor these areas closely so repairs can be made as soon as possible.
Duke Energy still has more than 9,000 customers out in our five-county area, but thousands more across both Carolinas. According to the Duke Energy outage map, the company still hopes to get all customers back in service by Sunday.
