Crews and volunteers continue to excavate Fort Anderson
Inside Brunswick Town, a place that used to be a bustling colonial port town, lies the remains of an old battery.
Archaeologists are trying to uncover pieces from the 1800’s, when this spot was a fort constructed by the Confederates. They found pieces that resemble nails, clasps and artillery gear.
Once they uncover everything, the North Carolina Office of Archaeology hopes to reconstruct the cannon firing platform that used to be there. Fort Anderson site manager Branda Bryant said, “So it’s very hard to visualize this fort and what was here looked like.”
Crews and volunteers excavated all day Wednesday and will continue until the area is almost cleared out.
