Police say Derrick Edge, 28, entered the Family Dollar on Shipyard Blvd. shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday and demanded the store’s safe be opened. When the safe could not be opened, the suspect went to the register where two customers fought with him.
Police said Edge then ran away dropping both his money and gun. They said he was arrested earlier today and facing charges including armed robbery and kidnapping.
A Wilmington Police spokeswoman said Edge has also been linked to three other robberies in the area. Those include a Dollar General armed robbery on October 22, Scotchman armed robbery the day before and a common law robbery on Williamson Drive from October 14.
