Cyclists go from River to Sea

The streets of New Hanover County were full of cyclists Saturday morning as 150 cyclists put on their helmets and hit the pavement for the 20th Annual River to Sea bike ride.

The event catered to the casual cyclist.

Plenty of children participated in the event, which started in downtown Wilmington. They pedaled to Wrightsville Beach and then back downtown, a 20-mile loop in all.

“This event and it’s to show awareness here in town and the city and it brings out people and it shows them safety,” said Steve Mangiacarpre of Cape Fear Cyclists.

“We’re doing this today because it’s a great ride and a great way for riders to see Wilmington and the beach,” added Eileen McConville.

May is National Bicycle Safety Month.

Today’s River to Sea bike ride was sponsored by the Wilmington Metropolitan Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
