Damage discovered after Leland overpass inspection
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A spokesman with the Department of Transportation says a second inspection of an overpass found some damage. The damage, however, will not require the overpass to close.
Brian Rick says crews used special equipment to evaluate the Mt. Misery Road overpass of Highway 74/76 on Monday; DOT crews said they decided to inspect the bridge again after a vehicle crash, just to make sure there wasn’t any damage that couldn’t be seen with a naked eye. Rick said after the inspection, engineers discovered minor damage with a small weld that needed to be repaired.
Rick says crews will now determine a date to repair the issue but says they will pick a time that will pose minimal impacts to traffic.
