Dan Cameron Bridge closures start next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Intermittent lane closures on the Dan Cameron Bridge start Monday.

The NCDOT will intermittently close one lane in each direction on the I-140 bridge over the Cape Fear River to perform routine bi-annual inspections. The closures will run from Monday, May 23 through Thursday, May 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

There won’t be any detours, but drivers are advised to use other routes if possible and should expect delays. Drivers should use caution while driving in the area, follow signs with construction information, and obey the posted speed limit.

Bridges must be inspected once every two years, as required by the Federal Highway Administration. Regular inspections help the department identify which bridges need repairs and schedule maintenance. If the NCDOT is to find concerns with the bridge, they will be repaired or closed immediately so those repairs can be made. In some cases, the NCDOT will post weight restrictions for the bridge. Bridges will not be kept open if they are found to be unsafe.
