Dance retreat benefits women and children with cancer


WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Folks are getting a chance to spend the weekend learning to dance and supporting a good cause in Wrightsville Beach.

The East Coast Shag Classic serves as a weekend getaway for participants to learn various dances such as the shag and even some line dances. This is the 5th year of the retreat that benefits Women of Hope.

The event’s chairperson and Penny Millis said it’s a weekend about meeting new people and benefiting a great cause.

“It’s all about building relationships, meeting new friends, and also supporting a great cause,” Millis said. “We’re supporting women and children who are diagnosed with any type of cancer, in our communities and surrounding counties.”

Millis said more than 200 people were signed up for the weekend retreat which is held at the Holiday Inn Resort at Wrightsville Beach.
