Debris jams Cape Fear River bridges
Flooding from Tropical Storm Hanna has jammed piles of debris under some bridges on the Cape Fear River in Fayetteville.
Whole trees, mats of grass, trash and even a small boat are in the piles. A state bridge maintenance engineer says it will be weeks before contractors can clean up the mess.
Engineers say the piles don’t appear to pose a threat to the bridge structures, but they will know for certain after the water level drops.
