Delaware flu cases cancel UNCW baseball series

No cases of the H1N1 virus, more commonly known as swine flu, have been found in North Carolina, but the illness is having an effect on UNCW baseball.

The University of Delaware’s baseball team has canceled its three-game series this weekend at UNCW because a Delaware player is sick. He is one of ten students the school says have "probable" cases of H1N1. The Blue Hens were scheduled to take a bus here to Wilmington this afternoon.

UNCW sports information director Joe Browning told WWAY the school found out Thursday morning Delaware was canceling its trip.

"We’re obviously disappointed that won’t be able to play the series," UNCW baseball coach Mark Scalf said in a statement, "but certainly understand there is a bigger issue at hand. We wish everyone affected a speedy recovery."

Delaware says the games will not be rescheduled.
