Dept. of Transportation lays off temporary workers

Some temporary workers with North Carolina’s Department of Transportation are out of work.

The DOT has laid off 88 temporary workers since October and will probably lay off hundreds more by the end of the year.

The DOT said revenue is down, and the money to pay temporary workers is not there. The DOT had 930 temporary workers. Officials don’t know if all of them will be laid off, but say hundreds will be let go.
