Deputies, bomb squad respond to domestic violence incident

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, after the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call early Sunday morning about a domestic dispute.

Officials say the call came in around 3:53 a.m. about an argument between a man and a woman at 235 Mohican Trail.

Lt. Jerry Brewer, with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said the man came home drunk early Sunday morning and shot his gun at the bedroom floor. Brewer said said the woman left the house after the argument.

Brewer said deputies had been stationed outside the house since 4 a.m. The bomb squad was also on scene.

Officials say the man, now identified as 42-year-old Clifton Boyd Hayes, was asleep, but finally woke up to the sounds of sirens around 1 p.m.

Brewer says officials are starting to clear up the scene.
