New details released in church break-ins
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a series of crimes where churches have been targeted.
Lt. Jerry Brewer said in a news release that in the past three months there has been an influx of break-ins and larcenies at churches in the southern part of the county. In several of the cases, criminals forcefully entered the church.
According to public records, Whispering Pines Baptist Church and Myrtle Grove Holiness Church, both on Carolina Beach Road, were among the targeted sanctuaries. The incident at Whispering Pines was reported November 30 and included several electronics stolen from the church. Myrtle Grove Holiness Church, however, has reported at least three break-ins since October 1. Electronics were also taken there.
