Deputies: Mother turns herself in after taking child from Hampstead home

UPDATE: The mother has turned herself into the authorities in Fayetteville. The child has been found and is safe.

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a child who was taken from his Hampstead home last night.

Atreyu Canady, 12, was taken from his home on Leeward Lane in Hampstead around 11 p.m. by his biological mom who doesn’t have custody.

Deputies say Canady was last seen wearing a black in color zippered hoodie with the word Vans in white lettering. He had on a pair unknown color athletic shorts and a pair of all black in color Nike Air Jordan tennis shoes.

Canady is a white male, approximately 5’ tall and weighing 130 lbs. He has Blue or Hazel colored eyes and Brown hair.

Canady is with Ashley Marie Canady and may be en-route to Fayetteville or Charlotte areas.

Canady is operating a Dark Blue 2013 Volkswagen Jetta 4 door bearing NC registration FBM-7409. Canady may currently have blonde hair.
