Deputies search for suspect after fiery crash in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County deputies are investigating a fiery crash in the Delco-Riegelwood area and searching for a suspect who ran away from the scene.

The sheriff’s office says it happened Thursday night when a Nissan Altima failed to stop, which led to a chase.

According to deputies, the car lost control on Cemetery Road, drove through Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and struck a tree. The driver ran into the woods. The deputy chased the suspect but was not able to find the driver.

The car caught on fire and Acme-Delco firefighters responded.

The investigation is ongoing.
