Deputies: Victim’s ex-wife charged in Castle Hayne shooting
CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Sheriff’s spokesman said deputies arrested a woman for a Castle Hayne shooting that happened Monday night.
Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer said the victim’s ex-wife, Jennifer Ann Crampton, 28, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. Lt. Brewer said the arrest is in connection to the shooting at 2709 Castle Hayne Road.
Deputies said the victim, Robert Dale Crampton, was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the head. Lt. Brewer said when deputies arrived to the scene just before 5:45 p.m. Monday, they found Jennifer Crampton in the front yard.
They said Jennifer told deputies her ex-husband was inside the home and had been shot.
Jennifer is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $1,000,000 bond. According to jail records, her first court appearance is Tuesday.
