Deputies net another big drug bust

New Hanover and Brunswick County drug enforcement units teamed up to seize more than a half a kilo of cocaine Tuesday night. The two men arrested are from are from Goldsboro and Leland. Investigators say they were bringing the cocaine into Wilmington.

New Hanover County Deputies arrested 38-year-old Marbin Edgardo Lujan and 27-year-old Ivan Padilla Garcia in the 300 block of South College Road Tuesday night.

This is New Hanover County’s second drug bust this week, after officers had already seized $13,000 worth of marijuana and $13,000 worth of mushrooms. Sheriff Ed McMahon says the two drugs busts this week were very significant.

“It’s great,” McMahon said. “Not only were we allowed to get a lot off the street with totally different people with no connection to each other. This is just another point where we work together with other agencies. When we pool our agencies it makes us that much more effective.”

The street value of the cocaine seized is $56,000.

Lujan and Garcia are in the New Hanover County Jail. They each have $1 million bonds.
