Detectives: Supply fire that killed toddler ruled accidental
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Supply fire that killed a toddler this month has been ruled accidental, according to Detective Carter with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire broke out at a mobile home on Sandy Bluff Drive on March 10. The child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Brunswick County Coroner Greg White later said Violet Rose Emmino died.
Detectives said there were five people inside the home at the time, including the child, who was in a crib in the master bedroom when the fire started.
They said improperly disposed smoking material in the yard sparked the flames, and that wind contributed to the fire quickly spreading.
Brunswick County’s Fire Marshall said when crews arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. No charges were filed.
