Diapers not being delivered

Customers of a locally based online diaper service say something smells a little funny; they paid up front for a years worth of diapers and say the company didn’t deliver.

NewDiaperClub.com is based right here in Wilmington and has almost 300 customers throughout the country.

The company promises its customers a year’s worth of diapers for $500, that’s almost $150 less than some similar companies.

Customers say at first the company followed through with its monthly shipments. “They actually delivered the first shipment to me, at my house,” said Sarah Whitmer.

But in April the diapers stopped coming.

Many customers are now having problems reaching the company owner here in Wilmington for an explanation or a refund.

“Oh no, it wasn’t meant as a scam at all. I really can’t tell you what happened yet. Everybody will be more okay with it and they’re getting their refunds and things back,” said Amy Galliher, owner of NewDiaperClub.com.

Now complaints have started to pile up on blogs and web sites have been formed calling the service a scam, but the Better Business Bureau said it doesn’t fit the usual pattern. “It is rare for something to start and then just drop off like that,” said Kathy Graham.

After more than 30 complaints to the Better Business Bureau, the New Diaper Club website is still open.

Graham added, “The fact that they aren’t answering our telephone calls, that they’re not responding to any of the complaints or concern, that’s what my problem is.”

Some customers have received refunds from their credit card companies, some from PayPal, but others had their refund requests denied.

Galliher has a criminal record including charges for issuing worthless checks, but her company has also donated diapers to several families in need.

The FBI and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.
